Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects 1 in 9 women and people assigned female at birth in Australia. Despite how common it is, many people wait years for a proper diagnosis—often because symptoms are dismissed as “just bad periods.”

At Her Health Medical, we’re committed to changing this. Our experienced women’s health specialists provide empathetic, evidence-based care to help women get the answers—and support—they need.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in areas it shouldn’t—often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel or pelvic wall. This tissue responds to hormones each month but has nowhere to go, leading to pain, inflammation, and sometimes scarring or fertility issues.

Common Symptoms of Endometriosis

Endometriosis symptoms can vary greatly, but common signs include:

  • Painful or heavy periods
  • Pelvic or lower back pain outside your period
  • Pain during or after sex
  • Pain when passing urine or having bowel movements
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Bloating or ‘endo belly’
  • Difficulty falling pregnant

If you’re experiencing any of the above, it’s important to know you’re not alone—and there is help available.

Early Diagnosis Makes a Difference

On average, it takes 6 to 8 years to diagnose endometriosis. Early diagnosis can improve your quality of life, reduce long-term complications, and give you more treatment options.

At Her Health Medical, our team takes your concerns seriously. We listen carefully, explore your symptoms, and guide you through the next steps with care and clarity.

How We Diagnose and Manage Endometriosis

Your doctor may recommend:

  • A thorough symptom assessment and medical history
  • Pelvic examination
  • Ultrasound or MRI
  • Referral for diagnostic laparoscopy (a minor surgical procedure)

Management and treatment options can include:

  • Pain relief and anti-inflammatory medications
  • Hormonal therapies
  • Diet and lifestyle strategies
  • Surgery, when appropriate

Our women’s health doctors will tailor your treatment to suit your unique needs and goals.
